Using Guide
To get the most out of your laptop there are a
few do's and don'ts.
DO's
1. Always ensure that the cooling vents are not
blocked. Keep the laptop on hard surfaces like table top, and not on
soft surfaces like cushions, since the latter can block air vents.
2. If not using the laptop for extended periods
(more than a few days), remove the battery.
3. Ensure that all battery locks are properly
set. A loose battery will rattle and damage the power connector
especially when travelling.
4. RAM modules and Hard disk and Optical drive
are user replaceable. Before starting the process, ensure that the
power plug is detached and the battery removed.
5. When loading optical disks, ensure that the
tray is supported while pressing the disk down to lock. It is best to
load a disk in two steps : first drop the disk on the tray, next grab
the tray with the fingers while using the thumb to press the disk down
to lock.
6. To conserve battery reduce the screen
brightness. This also increases the LCD life.
7. The best position to store the laptop is on
it's base with the screen slightly open. Keeping the screen closed for
long durations will cause screen damage .
8. When carrying the device in a bag, ensure that
the surface that is at the bottom has the longest contact area. This
will spread the weight of the laptop and avoid unsue stress and
breakage at pressure points during a bumpy ride. Laptops that have a
protruding hinge should be placed in the bag with the hinge facing up.
9. When travelling ensure that the laptop is
placed on it's base. If this is not possible, and the bag has to be
placed vertically, either avoid placing it on the floor or pack
something in to cushion the jerks.
10. Hold the screen, while opening or closing, in
the middle and not the edge. Holding the edge stresses the hinges.
DON'Ts
1. Do not keep anything heavy on the laptop. The
LCD screen under the top cover does not handle weight well.
2. Do not use the laptop in extremely hot
environments. The compactness of the laptop squeezes too many
components in a tight space, so cooling is critical.
3. Avoid closing the laptop when the system is
running. The heat from the components can ruin the display.
4. Avoid touching the lens on the optical drive.
If there are disk reading errors, it is best to use lint free cloth to
mildly brush the lens, avoid using force when doing so.
5. Avoid using screensaver when the system is
idle. Rather use power management to power down the screen, which
conserves battery and extends screen life.
6. Avoid continuously charging the battery when
using the laptop. It is best to unplug when the battery indicator shows
fully charged, and recharge when the battery level falls to critical
level. If possible only recharge when the laptop is not in use.
